ITINERARY - (MT RWENZORI-HIKING)
Day 1 : After arrival at the air port you will be welcomed by a representative from African Greenwich Safaris who will then transfer you to your lodge.

Day 2 : Depart for Kasese arrive early as you may need time to prepare for mountain hiking the next day, do shopping in Kasese town.

Day 3 : Wake up early morning around 6:00am have break fast and depart at 7:00am for the park headquarter for briefing and to choose the porters. After the exercise you will be led by experienced mountain hikers, well trained guides and porters. You will have your first night at Nyabitaba hut (8700ft /2,652m).The walk could take 5hours from Nyakalengija park headquarters. During this part of the trip you may be able to see chimpanzee and
sometimes behind the hut you can see black, blue white colobus monkeys and catch a glimpse of brilliant colored Rwenzori Turaco (a bird of the tree tops).

Day 4 : From Nyabitaba hut the trail heads westwards for a half kilometer drops North (right) steeply to Kurt Shafer bridge crossing the confluences of the Bujuku and Mubuku Rivers. By turning down to the bridge you begin the central circuit counter clockwise. Do not be tempted to take clockwise since that direction is much more difficult and adds considerably danger for you and the porter as well. For slow hikers may consider to have a stop at Nyamilenju hut or good hikers may consider to stay at John Matte hut which is at least 7hours from Nyabitaba hut. This section you will be able to see the giant healther lobelia and groundsel zone the remarkable vegetation type found no where else in the world except high altitude tropical African mountains.

Day 5 : Leave John Matte hut to cross Bujuku river and enter the lower of two big bogs where your first real experience of jumping from tussock to tussock in a grassy bog begins. Beautiful narrow streams at the upper end of the bog makes a good lunch break. After some hours climbing, you will reach Bujuku lake, the south part of the lake is in a majestic setting with Mt. Baker to the south and view the west of Mt. Stanley and north to Mt. Speke. Time to reach Bujuku hut from John Matte is 5hours. Overnight at Bujuku hut.

Day 6 : Leave directly west from Bujuku on a newer trail which rises and falls twice before finally climbing steeply through a magical moss-drapped groundsel gully towards (14,345ft/4,372m) Scot Elliot pass to Elena hut. Elena is the base camp for climbing (16,763ft/5,109m) .You can climb Margherita peak in the Mt. Stanley complex which requires an additional day and indeed this needs good mountain hikers.

Day 7 : An early start is advised to avoid over heating on the steep but lovely hour long climb from the lake to 14,050ft (4,282m). On clear days there are views into neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo, northward Margherita and its glaciers still dominate the horizon . Fresh Field is a long flat traverse through beautiful high alpine mossy glades. Rock shelters at Bunjogolo and Kabamba are optional overnight stops, but its best to push on to the newly constructed Guy Yeoman hut 10,700ft (3,261m).

Day 8 : Probably begin very early if you have decided to make it all the way to the park head quarters and complete you treck. An alternative would be to stay another night at Nyabitaba hut.

Day 9 : Meet with your driver guide for transfer to Kampala or air port.
